I am eleven. An excerpt from the book Blood Circle Black
Kapitál
Today we bring you a sample from the book Krev Kruh Černá . This documentary novel revisits the 1990s and breaks the notion of a "peaceful transformation." It brutally captures the violence of neo-Nazi groups as well as the reactions of the leftist subculture, without romanticizing or mythologizing. We will also be speaking with the author of the book, Radko Wollmann, at the Brak festival, on Saturday, May 30th at 5:30 PM .

I'm eleven and violence fills the newspapers and reports. Racialist skins run through Prague with chains, bats, and knives. They clear the streets, smash stalls of Vietnamese vendors at markets, attack anyone with a different skin color. Mainly Roma or those who look "alternative" – punks, rockers, skaters, drug addicts, gays. In their heads, they fight for the nation and the white race.
They do all this with the chant of the popular racist band Orlík, which ranks high on TV charts and helps turn this hateful movement into a widely shared fashion.
The band ended in 1991, confronted with what they had sown, when after one of their concerts, the center of Prague turned into one big hunting ground for drunken and armed racist skins, who in their passion sweep away anyone in their way.
Landa and Matásek then stammer on TV how their band "was actually a bit against all that..." and that "our time isn't ripe for democracy."
Meanwhile, thousands of young people sing:
Shout OI OI
Break his nose
With such a scumbag, don't shit yourself
Punch him in the face, beat him to the ground
The moment has come, you must fight...
To all who allow themselves to be oppressed (from Orlik album – Demise)
In the racist cocktail of their lyrics, the band thus provided many people with an object of hatred and a solution:
What was that blow?
Who dropped it on us from the palm tree?
Black eyes, black body
That's not my friend!
White league
White power
White league
White power
White league is white, white
Clean your shoes
In them is Your power
White power blinded me
It whitened my black soul
Song "White League" (from Orlik album – Demise)
Today, both gentlemen say that we can't look at that time with today's eyes because back then we didn't know what hatred and racism were. In the post-revolutionary period, everything was out of joint, and everyone was searching for their values and boundaries.
I leave the words of the lyrics to speak for themselves. Could it really have been just youthful rebellion against the world, with newly gained freedom and searching for truth?

We are also part of that demonized left, which fought for universal suffrage, shorter working hours, and the right to a decent life. The left that today stands behind the crowd, supports minorities, advocates for Palestine and other countries and nations under oppression. The left for which freedom of expression, solidarity, a full-fledged social state with fair wages, functional public healthcare, and education are key.
For years, we have openly written about our values and do not plan to stop. We are an independent media outlet, not controlled by any oligarchy or political party.
Regular contributions allow us to plan and respond to current events and bring topics often absent from mainstream media.
